KAOHSIUNG 2007
Estonian made champion at world cocktail contest

KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan -- Estonian bartender Krista Meri won the title at the 56th International Bartenders Association (IBA) World Cup Bartender Contest held in Taiwan's southern port city of Kaohsiung for her work "Gold Autumn," event organizers said yesterday.
The organizers made the remarks on the second day of the final round of competition.

Italian competitor Fabbio Bacchi was chosen runner-up for her "Plus 39," and Latvia's Andris Noreikis was second runner-up for her "Aerobios" in the final contest, according to the organizers.

A total of 49 top bartenders from around the world participated in the contest, the organizers noted, adding that after several rounds of competition, contestants from Estonia, Britain, Italy, Latvia, Cyprus and Singapore entered the final tournament.

Although Taiwan's representative Chang Wei-chen failed to enter the final round, she scored a brilliant performance during the competition, according to Hsieh Mei-mei, president of the Bartenders Association Taiwan.

Hsieh attributed Chang's failure to enter the final to not being able to satisfy the various taste preferences of the panel of judges.
