9th Finlandia Vodka CupTHE WINNER OF THE 9th FINLANDIA VODKA CUP IS LESZEK KRASZEWSKI FROM POLAND
The
9th Finlandia Vodka Cup was held at the Lainio Snow Village, situated
above the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland. 9th Finlandia Vodka Cup
arena - “the snow dome” was a construction of snow and ice with 18m
long ice bar. Pure Finnish nature provided optimal surroundings for the
worlds best bartenders to show their talents. Finlandia Vodka’s
homeland presented its true nature with temperature being 35 celsius
degrees below zero – but even that didn’t freeze the professionals.
Competitors of the 9th Finlandia Vodka Cup came from 22 countries
around the world. The most exotic countries included Puerto Rico,
Mexico, El Salvador, New Zealand and Australia where the surroundings
of bartending are very different than in the homeland of
Finlandia, especially now in January - during the 9th Finlandia
Cup. The event gave the opportunity to try out variety of Finnish
outdoor activities, collaborate with fellow barmen, have fun and
celebrate but also experience the unique Lappish tranquility and
calmness.
THE STRUCTURE OF THE FINLANDIA VODKA CUP
The Finlandia Vodka Cup consists of three drink categories: an
aperitive, a long drink and an after dinner drink. The unique structure
of the competition requires that the recipe of the drink is published
the first time at the competition. Competitors create 5 similar drinks
per each category in 7 minutes time frame per category. This structure
makes Finlandia Vodka Cup the only competition in the world which is
finished in total of one hour.
All the cocktails have to be based on Finlandia Vodka, or a member of
the flavor family; Cranberry Fusion, Redberry Fusion, Mango Fusion,
Lime Fusion, Grapefruit Fusion or Wild Berries Fusion. The bartenders
are judged on the appearance, aroma and taste of cocktails. Prizes are
given to the winner of each category as well as to the overall
Finlandia Vodka Cup winners.
Competition was tight as imagined when the world’s top bartenders are
attending. The winner of the overall 9th Finlandia Vodka Cup was LESZEK
KRASZEWSKI, from Poland. The second prize went to David Cordoba from
UK. The third place in the overall category went all the way to Mexico,
to Cesar Hernandez.
In the aperitive category the best aperitive was called “Dry Amarena”
and the recipe of the cocktail was created by HORVAT ZSHOLT from
Hungary. The best long drink carried the name “New Cochones” and it was
created by the overall winner LESZEK KRASZEWSKI from Poland. The winner
of the best after drink category was the only female participant of the
competition, OLGA MARKEVICH from Russia. Her beautiful drink was called
“Irresistible”.

Global jury appreciated the creativeness of the drinks and was pleased
to find national characters in many cocktails. A special member of the
jury – Harri Koskinen, the designer of the Finlandia Vodka bottle
pointed out that the appearance of the drink is as important as aroma
and taste. He was flattered by the creative design of the cocktails.
NATURAL PURITY
Finlandia Vodka is known for its natural purity. The glacial spring
water, a legacy of the Ice Age and six-row barley grown under the
Finnish Midnight Sun provide unique ingredients for Finlandia Vodka.
The vodka that is not made – it is born.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT
Finlandia Vodka Cup competitors faced another tough challenge, in
Kittilä, 170km above the Arctic Circle when attempting to get their
names to the Guinness Book of Records. The attempt was executed in most
extreme weather conditions. Competitors and guests showed ultimate
teamwork ability when attempting to make the LARGEST MAN MADE SNOW
PICTURE. Attendees from 25 different countries collaborated with each
other on tamping and coloring with the mould a picture of the Midnight
Sun and reindeers to the 100m x 100m snow field by using only snowshoes
and manpower. The attempt was a great success and in the end the snow
field was filled with joyful people, sense of unity and of course a
perfect picture – the same one that can be found on the each bottle of
pure, premium Finlandia Vodka.

MIDNIGHT SUN 2007
All winners of the 9th Finlandia Cup - the category winners and the
first, second and third in the overall category were invited to join
the upcoming Midnight Sun celebration in June 2007, which will be held
in Kittilä Lapland as well.
10th FINLANDIA VODKA CUP IN 2008
Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the Finlandia Vodka Cup.
Finlandia will continue to bring together top bartenders of the world
to the global event where they can experience the heritage and home of
Finlandia Vodka. A forum where bartenders can share their knowledge,
and build friendships across borders will be provided in from of 10th
Finlandia Cup in 2008. Be prepared.
Keep your judgment pure. Drink responsible.
